Thanatos god of peaceful death (Hellenism)


SYMBOLISM: Skulls, Bones, Images of scythes or swords, Wolves, Ravens/Crows, Inverted torches, poppy flowers, Butterflies, snakes, Locus, Gravestones, Grave dirt, wreaths

OFFERINGS: Cypress, poppies or poppy seeds, Asphodel, Poppies, grave rubbings, graveyard dirt, snake skins, butterflies, Moths, grim reaper symbolism, skulls, bones, candles, bitter wines, cigars, black coffee/tea, dark chocolate, drawings, paintings, poetry, music, Oils and Vinegars,

Colors: black, purple, red (I got a really strong feeling the color dark blue is associated with him. But I’m not sure)

Day: Friday/Saturday

Sabbats: Mabon & Samhain

Incense: Opium, Wisteria, Musk, Myrrh, Black Blossom

Herbs/Flowers: cypress, poppies, willow, pomegranate, birch, mandrake, mugwort, african violets, Asphodel

Animals/insects: Ravens/crows, snakes, butterflies, Wolves, Locus

Crystals: Amethyst, Onyx, Obsidian, Fire Opal, Rose quartz, Black tourmaline, Smokey Quartz, Black Apache Tear, (I try to use crystals that are good for grief and peace for gentle-ness with him)

Note: From what I’ve read, Amethyst is a good stone to connect to him with. (The stone is also said to be the stone of death in some legends) This stone also helps to prevent violent death and attract justice (Which he is associated with as well)
